Of Apples and Pears
Are you an apple shaped woman with most of your weight around your waistline? Or are you pear shaped with all the extra weight loaded around your hips? Extra weight is not good for your heart, especially if you are an apple. Pears can breathe easy. Ideally, the waist to hip ratio of women should be less than 0.8 to avoid health concerns like diabetes, heart disease, obesity and high blood pressure. Fitness for women over 50 is mostly concerned with maintaining this ratio apart from reducing overall weight. Aerobics is a fantastic way of losing weight but you can also consider muscle building exercises if you really want to take control of your shape.
