Features of UK patent

From its inception up until the 17th century  UK patent  was regarded as a privilege and had no roots in the common law. The earlier form of patents issued in the UK would resemble the charters granted by the Kings permitting the conduct of business in the region. With the emergence of the guild system in the UK group monopolies came into being. The evolution of the UK patent witnessed contributions from the Queen Elizabeth herself issuing letters patent to encourage foreigners to introduce new manufacturing product and technology. UK patent history has since witnessed interesting subjects and finally found the passing of legislation against monopolies in 1624.
