Sometimes a patient is transferred to one of the Eating Disorder Clinics straight from the hospital setting. Perhaps they were admitted to the hospital for esophageal bleeding and they are a bulimic or they have been so malnourished as an anorexic for so long they had heart failure. These patients require intense treatment to get better, and in fact, many don’t get better. From the hospital they will be admitted to the inpatient facility of an eating disorder clinic and be put through rigorous therapy and retraining on how to eat nutritiously.
