Ray Donnelly, a thoracic surgeon was the mastermind behind the establishment of the Roy Castle lung cancer foundation. He established this foundation in 1990, at which point of time the institute was known by the name of Lung Cancer Fund. The famous entertainer, Roy Castle was diagnosed with lung cancer in the year 1992. He was a non-smoker who contacted the disease for unknown reasons. Not one to be disheartened by this, he devoted his life to helping the charity in whatever way he could. Finally, the name was changed to what it is presently. He conducted a moving Tour of Hope, which used all its earnings for the building of a lung cancer research centre.
